Lessons at Sea Survey
In July 2024, The School of Conservation designed and distributed a 15-question survey aimed at capturing grassroots perspectives from fishermen operating along the Maharashtra coast. The survey examined daily operational challenges, awareness of conservation methods, procurement practices, and equipment needs relevant to sustainability and occupational safety. With responses from 13 fishermen, the survey provided critical insights that directly informed subsequent interventions and resource development.
Safety Net Fundraiser
In May 2024, The School of Conservation conducted the Safety Net Fundraiser, an online campaign with a target of INR 50,000 to support sustainable fishing livelihoods. Funds were raised through community outreach and transferred to the Sukhad Foundation to assist with the procurement of eco-friendly fishing equipment. Sustainable nets, lures, and biodegradable fishing lines were subsequently distributed to fishermen associated with the foundation, supporting both livelihood resilience and environmental protection.
